Community Art Exhibit: Back to the Future

They Say a cat has nine lives; Ellen has had at least that many, and perhaps more.
The road of her journey had been varied; art teacher, Art Director for professional journals, Medical Illustrator. Corporate Art Director/Designer, Freelance Graphic Logo Designer, Gestalt Psychotherapist. Shepherdess, Master Gardener, Assistant Judge for Windsor County (Retired), and mother of three wonderful people.
After what seems like a lifetime hiatus from artwork, Ellen’s current journey is leading her back home to reconnect with her art, hence the phrase, Back to the Future.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

“Lost Nation” Screening

Jay Craven’s newest film, “Lost Nation,” is a Revolutionary War era action drama set in the early upstart Republic of Vermont. The film stars Irish actor Kevin Ryan (“Copper,” Harry Wild”) as Vermont founding father and rebel schemer, Ethan Allen, who leads resistance to Yorker land claims, launches an ill-fated attack on British forces in Montreal, and leads invasions by his Green Mountain Boys into New York strongholds of Guilford and Brattleboro. At every turn, Allen navigates thick entanglements with allies, enemies, and family.

“Lost Nation’s” parallel story features Kenyan actress Eva Ndachi (“Beautifully Broken”) as Lucy Terry Prince, whose poem, “Bars Fight,” about the 1746 Deerfield Massacre, is the first known work of African American literature. Terry settled with her family on a Guilford, Vermont homestead carved out of the forest by her husband, formerly enslaved farmer, and frontier transport operator, Abijah Prince. Prince antagonist, aspiring Guilford politician John Noyes, is played by Rob Campbell (“The Crucible,” “Ethan Frome,” “The Unforgiven”).

VT HumanitiesVirtual SNAPSHOT: Film Discussion with “Underdog” director Tommy Hyde

“Underdog”: The curiously optimistic tale of Doug Butler—a hardscrabble Vermont dairy farmer who risks losing the only home he’s ever known to chase his dreams of dog mushing in Alaska.
Tommy Hyde is a documentary filmmaker whose work explores people and stories at the fringes. “Underdog,” a film ten years in the making, is his directorial debut. He frequently collaborates with Mosaic Films, and is currently in production with them on The Happening (in production) and Ordinary Saints (in production). He is a graduate of Middlebury College and resides in Burlington, VT.
