Join us for a month of fun and educational programming!

Community Art Exhibit: Pastel Visions

An exciting exhibit of pastel paintings by Upper Valley artists. Enjoy the rich colors, pleasing compositions, and compelling techniques employed by your UV friends and neighbors. We represent about nine area pastelists whose work we believe you will enjoy. You might even want to make a purchase!  

Join us on April 11, from 5:30- 7:00 for a festive opening. The show will continue, and work will be up through May 28th in the Community Room at the Library.  

AFTERSCHOOL

Make It: Peeps Diorama Building

Bring your cardboard boxes and your plan for your Peep Diorama submission! We’ll have a variety of materials for you to choose from to help make your vision a reality. And yes: we will have some Peeps available to add to your creation!

LEGO Tuesday: 

Create what you want or participate in our weekly challenges. Creations will be displayed in the library each week and you’ll de-construct your masterpiece the following week. Snacks provided. This is a drop-in event. Children under 5th grade must be accompanied by a caregiver.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Peep Diorama Contest 

Let the true madness begin. The PEEPLE have chosen the theme Magical Creatures, peepified to Magical Peeptures – now grab your peeps and start creating! Diorama contest rules: 

Dioramas will be judged in three categories:
1) Most creative use of materials
2) Most representative of theme
3) Best overall

Submissions accepted at the library registration station: April 9-12
Voting online and in-person: April 14-19
Winners announced: April 21

Gather: Discussion with Author, Ken Cadow

Join us for a talk from Gather author, Ken Cadow, as he discusses writing his book and the themes of Gather: poverty, education, community, housing security, land and a sense of place, and fixing things.

EARLY LITERACY

Storytime!

Join us for songs, stories, fingerplays, and activities designed to support your child’s early literacy development. We invite you to stay and play after storytime! 

Wednesdays April 2-30 10:30 – 11:30 AM | Meet in the Community Room | For ages 4 and under, with a caregiver

Preschool Storytime!

We’ll learn important social skills, listening comprehension, letter and number recognition and vocabulary all while having fun! Enjoy time with your child while building a foundation for reading success. 

Fridays, April 4-25, 10:30-11:15 AM | Meet in the Community Room For ages 3-5 years old with a caregiver. Younger siblings welcome though the content is geared towards 3-5 year olds.

VT Humanities Spring Reading & Discussion Series – Pilgrimage

The Friends of NPL host the Vermont Humanities Reading & Discussion series this spring.

Led by Suzanne H. Brown, Professor Emerita of English at Dartmouth College, the discussion group takes place here at NPL and is open to all. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 7-8:30 pm.

Human beings have undertaken pilgrimages of all kinds for thousands of years. Discover a variety of journeys – and whether the seekers find what they are looking for – in these varied writings.

April 1 – Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
April 22 – Michael Wolfe, One Thousand Roads to Mecca: Ten Centuries of Travelers Writing About the Muslim Pilgrimage

NPL Writing Group

NPL’s friendly monthly writing group! Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just interested in dabbling, come on by. NPL staff will facilitate playing with writing prompts, discussing great writing, and sharing as we go.

REGISTER HERE to reserve your spot for our April gathering (you can indicate on the form if you are interested in having an excerpt of your own writing workshopped during the session). 

The group will meet every third Wednesday of the month. Monthly participation is encouraged, but there’s no commitment. New members are always welcome!
